Located in Gaiole in Chianti, Siena, the Capannelle estate extends over about 20 hectares (16 of vineyards) and produces about 80.000 bottles of wine a year. The owner is James B. Sherwood, founder and shareholder of the Orient – Express Hotels LTD., which owns some of the world’s most beautiful hotels: Hotel Cipriani in Venice, Hotel Spendido in Portofino, Villa San Michele in Florence, Hotel Caruso in Ravello and many others.  The history of Capannelle wine producing dates back to 1974.  Check with Siema office for current vintages


Made with 100% Chardonnay, this wine is aged  70% in new Allier barriques and 30% in steel vats for 8 months
Refined 10 months in bottles, the colour is bright straw yellow, gold reflexes, crystal clear and consistent.
It has a bouquet that is intense, with initial flint and mineral, then pear, almond, citrus fruit and toasted bread aromas. This wine tastes dry, pleasant acidity. Persistent and intense taste exaits balance and guarantees a long life to wine. Dry mouth with a toasted aftertaste, vanilla. pear and a slight bitter inkling of liquorice. Delicate and well-balanced.

Chianti Classico Riserva

Made with Sangiovese, Colorino, Canaiolo grapes, this wine is aged in French and Austrian oak for 18 months. 25,000 bottles made.
Deep ruby red with purplish reflections, the bouquet jumps out of the glass and shows toast, coffe, chocolate, vanilla, red fruits. Long and persistent with intensity, develops slowly into moss, brushwood, iris, juniper and a little of wild fennel. In mouth it is a little astringent, warm, structured, fresh, glucid tannins. Taste of iris, undergrown, musk mixed with vanilla. Goes well with game, roast, stewed and braised meat.


Made with Sangiovese and Malvasia Nera grapes, this wine is aged for 12/14 months in barriques of Allier, Nevers and Tronçais oak.
Total production is 22000 bottles. An intense ruby red colour, with brilliant garnet hues, gives way to lingering on the nose, aromatic with hints of brushwood, musk, vanilla, almond, plum and magnolia. On the palate it is velvety and full-bodied with well-balanced acidity. Warm with rounded tannins, this wine has a long life ahead of it. Goes well with meat dishes, “baccalà alla livornese” or “baccalà alla vicentina”, tasty and aromatic cheeses such as Brie, Pecorino or Parmesan.

Sangiovese/Merlot (50/50)

Made with Sangiovese ( Capannelle), and Merlot (Avignonesi) grapes, this wine is aged for 18 months in French barriques. Production is 15,000 bottles. Intense, brilliant ruby red, with purplish reflections, give way to the bouquet jump which is overwhelming in its intensity. Toasted aromas of vanilla, tobacco and coffee. Floral notes evolve over several minutes, meshing with the other components; cherry, myrtle and strawberry blend beautifully in ample, persistent complexity. The palate exhibits both remarkable, finesse and structure; full and complex, its tannins are sweet and mellow, its texture pleasingly silky. The delicate acidity and sweet polyphenols are in total synergy, supporting the wine’s notable structure. Its magnitude and body enhances red fruit aromas and nuances of tobacco, vanilla and leather. Serve with important meats, roasted wild fowl, game, dry, strong and tasty cheeses. Excellent as meditating wine.
