About Capannelle

Sustainably Farmed

The history of the Capannelle farm began in 1974 when the entrepreneur Raffaele Rossetti moved to an old seventeenth-century farmhouse surrounded by 10.5 hectares of land in Gaiole in Chianti, the birthplace of Chianti Classico wine. After careful analysis, work begins on a new plant of 3.5 hectares of specialized vineyards with indigenous grapes such as Sangiovese, Canaiolo, Colorino and Malvasia nera. Two hectares are set up to house the olive grove.

The farmhouse was renovated and restored to its former glory with skillful structural and restoration works. Among the novelties is the introduction of a new kitchen, where renowned chefs combine Capannelle wines with their creations and a large tasting room, characterized by a 6-meter-long brother from the 1600s. Under the farmhouse there is also a very modern cellar with connections and piping in stainless steel which is at the forefront of the technology of the time.

The first label dates back to 1975. It is a table wine that simply takes the name of Capannelle. This first test will lead the company to emerge in the panorama of quality producers, thanks to the careful management of the vineyards and the use of modern technologies. In 1977 the barriques from the Central French Massif were introduced, which in a few years became a true cult among fans. In 1986 the experimentation on white wine started: after two years our Capannelle Chardonnay was fermented and aged in barrique.
